What Cigna says about ABA benefits

Cigna’s own autism resource guide (written for providers, March 2025) spells out a few points that matter to parents:

Not every Cigna plan includes ABA. Whether yours does depends on your specific benefit plan.
When a plan does include the ABA benefit, Cigna requires an autism diagnosis for your child to be eligible, unless the plan says otherwise.

Does Colorado law apply to my Cigna plan?

That depends on who regulates the plan. Colorado law (Section 10-16-104 (1.4), C.R.S.) requires health benefit plans issued or renewed in the state to cover the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorder, and the Colorado Division of Insurance says that minimum includes applied behavior analysis.

Here’s a quick check: if your Cigna card shows “CO-DOI” anywhere, the Division says your plan is state-regulated. Many people get Cigna through work, and a plan your employer pays for itself (self-funded) isn’t subject to Colorado’s mandates. Your HR team can tell you which kind you have.

Clinic or home: where sessions happen

Our clinic is at 1224 E. Elizabeth St in Fort Collins and serves families from Fort Collins, Loveland, Windsor, Greeley, Timnath and Wellington. If the drive doesn’t work for you, a therapist can come to your home instead, anywhere in Colorado, and some families do a mix of both. Either way, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) builds and oversees your child’s plan.

Your Cigna card, so we can read your member ID
Your child’s diagnosis report, if you have one

After you call

We take your Cigna details and check your child’s ABA benefits.
We tell you what we found, including whether ABA is part of your plan and what approvals Cigna needs.
A BCBA meets your child for the assessment, then writes a treatment plan with goals and recommended hours.
If your plan requires approval, we send the plan to Cigna. Once it’s approved, sessions begin at the clinic, at home or both.
