ABA Therapy With Aetna in Fort Collins, CO
Yes, Attain SLB accepts Aetna for ABA therapy in Fort Collins and across Colorado. Kids from age 1 through 18 can start at our clinic on E. Elizabeth St or with a therapist at home, and there’s no waitlist. Your Aetna plan sets the details, so before the assessment we verify your benefits and share what we learn.
Three things to know about Aetna and ABA
- Plan on an approval step. Aetna asks ABA providers to send a treatment request for precertification, so Aetna reviews your child’s plan before regular therapy begins. As your provider, we send that request.
- ABA during class is often excluded. Aetna’s autism policy notes that many of its plans exclude educational services, and it gives ABA during class as an example. If you were hoping for help during the school day, ask about your plan’s exclusions.
- The diagnosis matters. Aetna’s ABA policy is written around autism spectrum disorder. For conditions without an autism diagnosis, such as Down syndrome on its own, Aetna calls ABA unproven. Keep your child’s diagnosis report close when you call.
Where Colorado law fits
Colorado requires state-regulated health plans to cover assessing, diagnosing and treating autism spectrum disorder (Section 10-16-104 (1.4), C.R.S.), and the state’s Division of Insurance lists ABA as part of that minimum. The rule doesn’t follow every Aetna card, though. Self-funded employer plans, union plans, federal employee plans and plans issued in another state fall outside it.
Look for “CO-DOI” printed on your card: the Division says that mark means your plan follows Colorado’s rules. Deductibles and coinsurance can still apply either way.
